Chemical biology is the new trend in chemical research worldwide which deals with study at the molecular level. This rapidly growing field covers the chemistry/biology interface research supplied by tools and approaches derived from chemistry. Our laboratories emphasize interdisciplinary research that spans the protein and peptide sciences including biocatalysis, genome bioinformatics, structural and synthetic biology, molecular modelling and nanoemulsion for life-science applications. Metalloenzyme-, peptide- and DNA-based catalysts are being developed for the various organic syntheses of fine chemicals (palm oil esters and epoxides) and chiral pharmaceuticals. These patented methods/products are being used in translational research, for example palm oil esters based nanodelivery systems of drugs (medical) and herbicides (agrichemistry), antifreeze peptides in cryopreservation and downsizing protein (enzyme mimic) to peptide for a plethora of future applications.
