PURE MATHEMATICS

Research in pure mathematics in the Department of Mathematics UPM includes areas such as algebra, functional analysis, graph theory, number theory and group theory. The main areas studied in algebra  are Lie algebra, Leibniz algebra, Hopf algebra, K-theory algebra, algebraic topology and homological algebra. Investigation in functional analysis focuses on the classes of infinite-dimensional topological vector spaces while in graph theory, focus is on the characterization of chromatically unique graphs, distribution of roots of the chromatic polynomial, and bounds and inequalities of the chromatic polynomial of certain families of graph. Research in number theory concentrate more on analytic number theory, algebraic number theory and Diophantine approximation.  Study in group theory emphasizes on computational group theory.
